Dallas Walking Trails Perfect For Staying Fit

Although Dallas is such a bustling, urban center, there are many local opportunities to spend time in nature and get some great exercise. Residents of The Christopher have easy access to beautiful trails that are less than 15 minutes away. Check out three great options for walking, running, biking, or birdwatching near our Dallas apartments.

White Rock Lake Trail

Along with being an important water reservoir for the city of Dallas, White Rock Lake is at the heart of an enjoyable park with plenty of recreational opportunities. The White Rock Lake trail is a comfortable, paved 9-mile loop ideal for hikers at any skill level. The trail has long stretches around the lake, through woods, and over a bridge. Enjoy pretty lake views, bird sightings, and many shaded areas.

Katy Trail

This privately-funded community space in Downtown Dallas was created out of an abandoned railroad line. Katy Trail is now a well-maintained, peaceful sanctuary for bikers, runners, and walkers. Dogs are welcome too, as long as they’re on a leash. Completing the full path is a picturesque 7.5-mile journey past greenways, flowers, ponds, streams, and fountains. This urban trail is also paved and flat, which makes it accessible and enjoyable for almost everyone.

Oak Cliff Nature Preserve Trail

For a true escape from the city that’s still less than 20 minutes away, head to this dirt trail ideal for hiking and mountain biking. While the Oak Cliff Nature Preserve Trail is actually still within Dallas, it’s so easy to forget while surrounded by acres of beautiful woods. The loop is 6 and a half miles long, with plenty of twists and turns to keep you on your toes. The path is also very well-maintained and has many shady spots.
