Fall is right around the corner! The long days of summer are coming to an end and it’s time to celebrate the beauty of autumn. You can take part in a charming annual event just a few minutes from your downtown Dallas apartments. Visit the Dallas Arboretum from September 21-October 31 for spectacular sights and exciting activities.
Autumn at the Arboretum
The incredibly festive “Autumn at the Arboretum” returns to celebrate its 14th year of stunning fall displays. This delightful celebration of autumn utilizes almost 90,000 pumpkins, gourds, and squash to create the magical “Pumpkin Village”. Visitors to the arboretum during the autumn months can enjoy several special events and a stroll through the village.
It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
Each year, the arboretum creates a special theme for their autumn celebration. This year’s theme is the beloved classic It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. Visitors are sure to love the adorable displays featuring the Peanuts gang and memorable scenes from the show.
You’ll find Linus and Sally in the pumpkin patch, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Great Pumpkin. Schroeder will be tickling the ivories of a giant topiary piano, while Lucy is stationed at her infamous advice hut. Snoopy and Woodstock will pass the time atop the doghouse, while Charlie, Marcy, and Peppermint Patty can be found at the iconic brick wall.
Live Music & Performances (September 21-October 27)
Visit the Martin Rutchick Concert Stage every Saturday and Sunday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. for fantastic live music and dance. Local bands, youth orchestras, and dance groups will take the stage each weekend to deliver a wide variety of artistic performances.
A Tasteful Place Celebrations (September 29, October 4)
A Tasteful Place—the arboretum’s pavilion and kitchen—offers two special events during the fall months.
On September 29, guests can take part in the “National Coffee Day Celebration”. The event will feature coffee from many of Dallas’ favorite coffee houses, along with a tasty selection of sweet treats like pastries and ice cream. Talented local musicians TBA Band and Dave Garrison will liven up the event with plenty of great tunes.
On October 4, A Tasteful Place celebrates “National Taco Day”. If you love tacos, you won’t want to miss this party! From street tacos to gourmet specialties, there will be something to please everyone’s palate. You can also enjoy fresh salsa, homemade tortillas, and fruity paletas. Test your taste buds at the “beer taste test”, featuring a wide selection of Mexican and domestic beers.
Both events take place from 10:00 a.m.—4:00 p.m.
Oktoberfest Weekend (October 5 & 6)
Celebrate delicious German food and beer at the arboretum’s Oktoberfest Weekend. Catch traditional dance performances and lively music while munching on authentic German favorites like Bavarian pretzels, bratwurst, and warm apple strudel. Take part in a game of pretzel toss or enter the Stein Holding Competition.
The arboretum’s beautiful eatery, Café on the Green, will feature an Oktoberfest menu until October 31st. Try a hot pastrami sandwich, a decadent piece of Black Forest cake, and a variety of Oktoberfest beers.
The festival runs both days from 11:00 a.m.—4:00 p.m.
A visit to “Autumn at the Arboretum” is a wonderful way to take in the dazzling sights of the season. In addition to thousands of pumpkins, the arboretum will be decked out in mums and other fall-blooming beauties as far as the eye can see.
